Brex reviews and Brex credit card review from business customers

Brex reviews tell two stories. Finance teams who use the software every day rate it among the best in the category. A smaller group of customers whose accounts were frozen, denied or had their limit cut write some of the harshest reviews any card company gets. Both groups are describing the same company, from different sides of its risk team.

Brex limits stop a single card from overspending. They do not tell the head of marketing that the team has used 80 percent of the quarter's budget across twelve cards by week five. Set a budget, replay a month of card spend, and watch when the alert fires. It runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

The short version

Are Brex reviews good?

On software review sites, yes. Brex scores 4.5 on Capterra from 139 reviews, 4.6 on reviews.io from 146, and about 4.7 to 4.8 on G2. On Trustpilot its TrustScore is 1.8 from 576 reviews, even though 73 percent of those reviews are five-star. The low score comes from recent reviews about frozen accounts, denied applications and cut limits. The software is well liked. Account decisions are where Brex loses people.

Brex reviews on each platform

Read the reviewer, not only the score. A G2 or Capterra review is usually written by an admin or finance user who works in the software. A Trustpilot review is usually written by someone whose account just stopped working.

Platform Score Reviews Who writes them
G2 4.7 to 4.8 About 1,400 to 1,600 Admins, finance staff and employees using the app. Score varies slightly between snapshots.
reviews.io 4.6 146 Mixed. 89 percent recommend. Several one-star posts are spam for "fund recovery" services, not Brex customers.
Capterra 4.5 139 Verified business users, mostly small and mid-size companies.
Trustpilot 1.8 576 73 percent five-star, 19 percent one-star. Recent one-star reviews are about frozen accounts, denials and limits.
Glassdoor 3.9 About 600 Brex employees. Says nothing about the product.

Why is the Brex Trustpilot score so low?

Trustpilot's TrustScore is not a plain average. It weights recent reviews more heavily, so a run of one-star reviews in the last year can drag a company with mostly five-star history down to 1.8. That is what happened to Brex: nearly three in four lifetime reviews are five stars, but the recent ones skew angry.

The angry ones share a pattern. They are not about receipts, dashboards or accounting sync. They are about risk decisions: a card frozen during a payroll week, an application turned down with no reason, a request for a signed bank letter before an external account could be linked, a limit that went from a working number to zero overnight. Brex underwrites on the company's cash and backing, so when the cash balance or the risk picture changes, the limit changes with it, sometimes faster than the customer can react.

Brex replies to 91 percent of negative Trustpilot reviews, usually within two weeks. Two weeks is fine for a feature request. It is a long time if the card that pays your vendors is frozen.

What Brex reviews praise

The software side reviews consistently well. Users single out how quickly cards can be issued and limited per person or per vendor, receipt capture by text or email that matches itself to the charge, and a dashboard that shows spend by team without an export to Excel. Admins like that policy lives in the card itself, so most out-of-policy spend is blocked rather than reviewed later.

Companies with staff outside the US also rate Brex well, because it supports local cards and multiple currencies in a way the domestic-only card platforms do not. On price, Essentials costs nothing on the Brex card, and Premium is $12 per user a month. The full breakdown is on our Brex pricing page.

What are the most common Brex complaints?

Five themes repeat across Trustpilot, reviews.io and Capterra. The first four are about the account. Only the last is about the software.

01

Accounts and cards frozen without notice

The most damaging complaint. Reviewers describe cards and accounts frozen with no warning and little explanation while a review runs.

02

Applications denied without a reason

Brex is selective. Sole proprietors, unfunded companies and businesses below its revenue bar are often turned down, and the denial rarely says why.

03

Verification that holds up access to money

Linking an outside bank account or proving a physical address can stall for weeks, with requests for signed letters and documents.

04

Credit limits cut overnight

Because the limit follows your cash, a big payroll or a slow quarter can shrink it fast. Some reviewers report going to a zero limit with no notice.

05

Support, fees and sync details

Support is mixed: fast for some, slow while an account problem is open for others. Capterra reviewers also mention USD-only accounts, no check payments, higher international payment fees and the odd miscategorized expense.

Brex credit card review for business buyers

The Brex card is a corporate charge card, not a credit card in the revolving sense. There is no personal guarantee and no personal credit check, which is why founders like it. Brex sets the limit from the company's cash balance, revenue and funding, and the balance is paid in full, daily or monthly. There is no interest because there is no carried balance.

That structure explains both halves of the reviews. Underwriting on cash is what lets a two-year-old startup with $3 million in the bank get a high limit without the CEO signing for it. It is also what makes the limit move when the cash moves. If your company runs lean on cash, plan for the limit being lower in the weeks after payroll than in the weeks after a raise.

Brex has narrowed who it serves before. In June 2022 it told many small businesses without venture funding or meaningful revenue that it would stop serving them, which is the source of a wave of older one-star reviews. Capital One completed its acquisition of Brex on April 7, 2026. Brex still operates under its own name, but if you are signing a multi-year card program, ask in writing whether eligibility rules or the card issuer will change during your term.

How to test Brex reviews against your own company before signing

Most of what goes wrong in Brex reviews is predictable from your own numbers, so ask about it before you move the card program, not after.

  1. Ask what your limit would be at your lowest cash balance of the last year, not your current one.
  2. Ask how much notice Brex gives before reducing a limit or freezing a card, and how you reach a person when it happens.
  3. Keep a second card or bank line live for payroll-adjacent vendors so a freeze cannot stop critical payments.
  4. Link every outside bank account during onboarding, while you still have time to send documents.
  5. Confirm which accounting system your plan syncs with, and test a month of categorization in the trial.

If a card limit can shrink by half in a week, the company's cash plan has to survive that. A rolling business budget with scenario planning lets you see what a lower limit does to vendor payments before it happens, instead of finding out from a declined card.

Is Brex worth it for a small business?

If you qualify and hold a healthy cash balance, usually yes. Essentials costs nothing, the card controls are strong, and the software reviews are among the best in the category. If you are a sole proprietor, unfunded, or run with thin cash, the reviews suggest you will either be declined or live with a limit that moves. In that case look at the options in Brex alternatives for small business, or compare the two biggest card platforms head to head in Ramp vs Brex.

What no review mentions is the budget view. Brex limits each card, and each card can be inside its limit while the department total runs 40 percent over by the 20th. Spend on cards from other issuers never shows up in Brex at all. That is the gap SpendNotify covers: it reads the charges on the cards you already hold, from Brex or any other bank, and warns the budget owner by email, Slack or webhook while the month is still open. It is not a card and does not replace Brex. See how on budget alerts.

Questions buyers ask

Brex reviews questions

Is Brex legit?

Yes. Brex is a US corporate card and spend management company founded in 2017, and Capital One completed its acquisition of Brex on April 7, 2026. Its negative reviews are about underwriting and account decisions, such as frozen accounts and reduced limits, not about whether the card and payments are real.

Does the Brex card require a personal guarantee?

No. The Brex card is underwritten on the company, using its cash balance, revenue and funding rather than the founder's personal credit, and it carries no personal guarantee. The trade-off is that the balance is paid in full, daily or monthly, and the limit moves when the company's cash moves.

Are Brex reviews on Glassdoor about the product?

No. Glassdoor reviews are written by Brex employees about working there, about 3.9 from roughly 600 reviews. They say nothing about how the card or software performs for a customer. For product reviews, read G2, Capterra, reviews.io and Trustpilot.

Is Brex better than Ramp?

For companies with staff abroad, often yes, because Brex supports more countries and currencies. For a US-only company, Ramp is usually easier to qualify for and its free tier covers more. Both are charge cards with no personal guarantee. Our Ramp vs Brex comparison prices both for one company.

What happens to Brex reviews now that Capital One owns it?

Nothing yet that the scores show. The deal completed on April 7, 2026, and recent reviews still describe the same product and the same underwriting complaints. Read reviews dated after that date, and ask Brex in writing whether eligibility, the card issuer or support channels will change during your contract.
