TravelBank alternatives and TravelBank pricing compared at your travel spend

TravelBank charges a flat annual fee and pays it back as a rebate, but only once you book $250,000 of travel in the app. Navan charges nothing for booking. Perk takes a cut of every trip. Which one is cheapest depends almost entirely on one number you already know, so the tables below run all three at four levels of annual travel spend.

Short answer

What is the best TravelBank alternative?

For a US company under 300 employees, Navan is the cheapest swap: travel booking costs nothing and expenses are free for five users, then $15 per active user a month. Perk suits teams that would rather pay a fee per booking than sign an annual contract. SAP Concur fits large and global programs. And TravelBank itself stays the better deal once you book more than about $500,000 of travel a year in it, because at that point the rebate cancels the fee.

Before you compare

What changed since U.S. Bank bought TravelBank

Taken from TravelBank's own pricing and press pages and from U.S. Bancorp's reporting. TravelBank still sells under its own name, which is why many buyers do not realize a bank owns it.

When What happened What it means for you
September 2020 U.S. Bank Instant Card virtual cards are built into the TravelBank app. U.S. Bank corporate and commercial card customers can push a virtual card with a set budget to a traveler's phone.
November 2021 U.S. Bancorp agrees to acquire TravelBank, a deal Skift reported at about $200 million, and closes it that quarter. Your travel and expense vendor is a unit of one of the largest US commercial card issuers.
Today Travel is sold as flat annual plans with a travel rebate. Expense pricing goes through a demo request. You can model the travel side from the website. For expenses you need a written quote.

Why staying can make sense

If your company already runs a U.S. Bank commercial card, TravelBank is the one tool where card issuing, booking and expense capture are built by the same owner. Virtual cards come from inside the app, and TravelBank lists an annual rebate for U.S. Bank commercial card holders. Leaving means rebuilding that link somewhere else.

Why companies start looking

Most teams that shop around are not U.S. Bank cardholders and book well under $250,000 of travel a year. For them the $5,000 Premium fee is never offset, while Navan charges nothing for booking at the same headcount. A renewal quote is usually the moment that math gets noticed.

TravelBank alternatives compared on price, cards and fit

Prices read from each vendor's own pricing page. Where a vendor does not publish a number, the table says so instead of guessing.

Tool Published price Cards Best for
TravelBank Travel Premium $5,000 a year (1% rebate), Elite $10,000 (2%), custom for 100+ users. Expense on quote. Syncs any corporate card. Virtual cards and rebate for U.S. Bank cardholders. U.S. Bank card programs booking more than about $500,000 of travel a year.
Navan Travel free up to 300 employees. Expense free for 5 active users, then $15 per active user a month. Enterprise on quote. Navan corporate card, or your existing cards through Navan Connect. Companies under 300 people that want $0 booking and modern self-serve travel.
Perk Starter $0 plus 5% a booking. Premium $99 a month plus 3%. Pro $299 plus 3%. Every fee $2 to $30 a booking. Card agnostic for travel. Travel and Spend bundle from $6 per active user plus 3%. Teams that travel unevenly and prefer paying per trip to a fixed annual contract.
SAP Concur Expense from $7 a report (Base) or $11 (Plus). Concur Travel only on Premium, quoted. Card feeds from most US issuers, U.S. Bank included. Large and multinational programs, and companies already running SAP.
Ramp Free $0. Plus $15 per user a month plus an unpublished platform fee. Controls work on Ramp's own card. Companies ready to move the whole card program, travel included, onto one issuer.
Expensify Collect $5 per member a month. Control $18 per active member on an annual plan. Imports outside card feeds, or the Expensify Card. Expense-first teams who book travel elsewhere and want the reports to stay simple.

TravelBank expense pricing is not on travelbank.com. One third-party listing reports $2,000 a year for up to 15 users and another reports $25 per user a month, so treat both as rumors until you hold a quote.

The math that decides it

How much does TravelBank cost after the rebate?

The sticker is $5,000 or $10,000 a year. The rebate is 1 or 2 percent of the travel you book in the app, and it only switches on at $250,000. Below that line you pay the full fee. At $500,000 both plans net to zero, and above it TravelBank effectively pays you.

That is the opposite of Perk, whose fee grows with every booking, and of Navan, which charges nothing at any spend because travel suppliers pay it a commission. So the cheapest tool flips as travel spend rises. Under $250,000 TravelBank is hard to justify unless the U.S. Bank card link matters to you. Above roughly $500,000, Elite beats both.

The table assumes an average booking of $500, the rebate paid on everything booked in the app as the pricing page reads, and a company under Navan's 300-employee line. Ask TravelBank to confirm the rebate base in writing before you count on it.

Pick by the problem you have

Best TravelBank alternative in each situation

A ranked list hides the fact that the right answer moves with your card and your travel volume. Start from where you are.

01

Under 300 people, under $250K of travel

Navan. You stop paying a booking fee entirely, and the first five expensing users are free.

02

Travel comes in bursts

Perk Starter. A quiet quarter costs almost nothing, and a busy one costs 5 percent of what you booked.

03

A U.S. Bank card and big travel

Stay on TravelBank Elite. Above $500,000 booked, the 2 percent rebate pays the fee and then some.

04

Global travelers or an SAP ERP

SAP Concur. It costs more and takes longer to set up, but handles many entities and currencies.

05

Moving the whole card program

Ramp or Brex, if you are ready to replace your corporate card and want cards, receipts and travel in one place.

06

The booking tool is fine, the budget is not

You may not need a new platform. An alert on the card spend you already have warns the budget owner mid-month.

Before you switch

What a booking platform does not tell you about travel budgets

TravelBank, Navan and Perk all enforce policy per trip. A hotel above the cap needs approval, a flight outside the window gets flagged. What none of them watches well is the department total across a month: twelve trips, each inside policy, that together put sales 40 percent over its travel budget by the 20th.

Part of that spend never touches the booking tool anyway. Rideshares, client dinners, conference fees and the hotel someone booked direct for a better room all land on the card. Switching booking platforms does not change that, and a migration month is exactly when tracking slips.

That gap is what SpendNotify covers. It reads every charge on the cards you already hold and warns the budget owner while the month is still open. For the T&E side as a whole, our travel and expense management software comparison covers expense tools, and business travel software compares booking platforms by how they make their money.

Where SpendNotify fits, and where it does not

SpendNotify does not book flights or hotels and does not replace TravelBank. It reads the charges from your U.S. Bank, Amex or any other card through forwarded bank transaction emails, an iPhone Shortcut for Apple Pay, or a CSV, OFX or QFX statement, and alerts the budget owner by email, Slack or webhook when a department's travel spend is on pace to overshoot.

The Team plan covers up to 25 monitored employees and cards with unlimited budgets for $199 a month. How the alerts work is on budget alerts.

A clean exit

How to leave TravelBank without losing a month of data

01

Pull last year's booked total

Export travel booked in the app for the last 12 months. It decides whether the rebate ever applied.

02

Check the renewal date

Annual plans renew as a block. Give notice in time and plan the switch for the start of a quarter.

03

Move future trips, not past ones

Let booked trips finish where they are. Unused airline credits often stay with the old tool's agency.

04

Keep budgets watched in between

During the overlap, spend lands in two systems. Watch the card itself so no department drifts unseen.

Questions buyers ask

TravelBank pricing and alternatives questions

How much does TravelBank cost?

TravelBank publishes its travel plans as annual prices: Premium at $5,000 with a 1% travel rebate and Elite at $10,000 with a 2% rebate, plus a custom plan for 100 or more users. The rebate only applies once at least $250,000 of travel is booked in the app. Expense pricing is quote only on TravelBank's site, and third-party listings disagree on it.

Who owns TravelBank?

U.S. Bank. U.S. Bancorp agreed to buy TravelBank in November 2021, in a deal Skift reported at about $200 million, and closed it in the fourth quarter of 2021. The two had already built the U.S. Bank Instant Card virtual card into TravelBank in 2020. TravelBank still sells under its own brand.

Do I need $250,000 in travel spend to get the TravelBank rebate?

Yes. TravelBank's pricing page says a minimum of $250,000 in travel booked inside the TravelBank app is required to qualify for the 1% or 2% rebate. Below that you pay the full $5,000 or $10,000. TravelBank also lists the annual rebate under capabilities for U.S. Bank commercial card holders, so ask in writing whether your card affects eligibility.

Does TravelBank work with any corporate card?

TravelBank says it syncs with all corporate cards for reconciliation, so an Amex, Chase or Capital One program can stay. The deeper features, issuing U.S. Bank Instant Card virtual cards inside the app and the commercial card rebate, belong to U.S. Bank cardholders. Without a U.S. Bank card, compare it as a plain travel and expense tool.

Is Navan cheaper than TravelBank?

For booking, yes, below roughly $500,000 of annual travel. Navan charges nothing for travel at companies up to 300 employees because hotels and airlines pay it a commission, while TravelBank charges $5,000 or $10,000 a year. Above $500,000 booked in the app, TravelBank's rebate cancels its fee, so the two converge and TravelBank Elite can come out ahead.

Is TravelBank the same as United TravelBank?

No. United TravelBank is United Airlines' stored cash balance for buying United tickets. TravelBank at travelbank.com is a business travel and expense platform owned by U.S. Bank. Everything on this page is about the business software.

Can I get travel budget alerts without switching from TravelBank?

Yes. SpendNotify reads the card charges you already have and alerts the budget owner by email, Slack or webhook when a department's travel spend is on pace to pass its monthly budget. It does not book travel, so it sits next to TravelBank or whatever replaces it.
